Laurent Picciotto (avec l'aide du journaliste Olivier Muller) a bien cherché partout, mais il pense avoir trouvé son bonheur du côté de chez Bvlgari, avec l'Octo Finissimo, qu'elle soit en titane ou en fibre de carbone. Comme nous ne sommes pas loin de partager sans réserve son enthousiasme, nous proposons son cri du cœur à nos lecteurs...
Et si l’on avait trouvé la pièce ultime ? Celle qui ne sera suivie d’aucune autre à votre poignet ? Et si cette montre que tout collectionneur poursuit comme le Graal, nous l’avions ? Nous ne vous le dirions pas, au risque de ne plus vous revoir. C’est la règle : la plus belle de toutes, c’est la prochaine. Sauf que toute règle a ses exceptions. Celle-ci tient en quatre lettres : OCTO. Le chemin fait par Bulgari avec l’Octo est phénoménal. La manufacture a réussi à créer au poignet une sensation inédite, inconnue. A débarrasser l’extra plat de son héritage poussiéreux, à le propulser dans une dimension que l’on ne connaissait.
Cette sensation, c’est celle d’une montre que l’on oublie pour deux raisons : sa minceur et son poids. L’Octo Finissimo cumule quatre records du monde : les plus fins calibres à tourbillon manuel, automatique, à répétition minutes, à trois aiguilles automatique. A côté d’elle, n’importe quelle montre que vous pourriez reprendre – ce qui n’arrivera pas – semblera irrémédiablement lourde et volumineuse, sans gagner en puissance. Ce sera même probablement l’inverse : rien n’égale la puissance et la modernité d’une Octo Finissimo, son confort totalement inhabituel. Du jamais vu en horlogerie. Avec elle, c’est l’extraplat dans son ensemble qui a basculé dans une nouvelle dimension. La légèreté y est reine. A 77 grammes l’Octo Finissimo trois aiguilles en titane, bracelet compris,(43 grammes sur cuir) il n’y a qu’une autre Octo Finissimo pour rivaliser – la Répétition Minutes en carbone (47 grammes, bracelet compris).
A ceux qui croient encore que Bulgari est encore principalement une maison joaillière , la profession a déjà répondu. En 2017, l’Octo Finissimo Automatic recevait le très convoité Prix de la Montre Masculine au GPHG (Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève). Fait rarissime : la même année, Bulgari recevait un second prix au même GPHG, celui de la Montre Tourbillon avec l’Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton. Pour ne citer que ces deux-là. Finissimo Titane ou Squelette sont des œuvres d’art comme seuls les italiens savent en faire. Les Finissimo Tourbillon et Répétition Minutes, des complications comme seuls les Suisses savent les créer. Il y a dans l’Octo un génie universel qui transcende – et dépasse – tout ce que nous avions pu (a)voir jusqu’à présent. Et si vous pensez que l’on s’emballe, nous vous répondrons : ne venez pas l’essayer. Vous risqueriez de tomber d’accord.
AT LAST, THE ULTIMATE TIMEPIECE ?
Octo represents a phenomenal achievement for Bulgari . Well, we wouldn’t tell you – for fear of never seeing you again. It’s one of our cardinal rules: the most beautiful piece of all is always the next one. But there’s at least one exception to every rule, and in this case, it can be spelled out in just four letters: O-C-T-O What if the ultimate timepiece had been found? The one that would have no successor on your wrist? And what if such a watch, the Holy Grail sought by all collectors, was in our possession?Themanufacture has succeeded in creating an entirely new, never-before-experienced sensation on the wrist, ridding the ultra-slim watch of its dated baggage, and propelling it into a hitherto uncharted dimension.
Paradoxically, the sensation in question is that of actually forgetting the piece , due to two things: its slimness and its weight. The Octo Finissimo holds a total of four world records: the slimmest ever manual tourbillon, automatic, minute repeater, and three-hand movements. By comparison, any other watch – in the highly unlikely event of you ever picking up any other watch again – would immediately seem hopelessly heavy and bulky, and no more imposing for all that. In fact, the opposite would probably be the case: nothing can equal the power and modernity of an Octo Finissimo and its wholly unprecedented comfort, surpassing anything else achieved to date in watchmaking. The Octo takes ultra-slim watches as a whole into a new dimension; lightness reigns supreme. Weighing in at just 77 grammes including the strap (43 grammes with leather band) , the Octo Finissimo featuring three titanium hands isrivaled only by another Octo Finissimo – the Carbon Minute Repeater (47 grammes, including the strap).
Some die-hards may argue that Bulgari is still first and foremost a jewellery brand, but the professionals have already had their say. Amongst other honours, in 2017 the Octo Finissimo Automatic received the much-coveted Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG) Men’s Watch Prize – and in the rarest of occurrences, the very same year, Bulgari also scooped a GPHG award in the Tourbillon Watch category, for its Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton. The Finissimo Titanium and Skeleton are works of art as only the Italians can produce; the Finissimo Tourbillon and Minute Repeater are complications only the Swiss could come up with. The Octo embodies universal genius that transcends – and exceeds – everything we’veever seen or owned thus far. And if you think we’re getting carried away with ourselves, all we can say is: please don’t come and try one on. You might just agree with us.
